INDIA'S FIRST FEMALE CIVIL ENGINEER
We all know about Sir M. Visvesvaraya and his contribution to our country. He was the architect behind the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara dam at Mandy which helped to many farmers and to their farms. But does we know who is the first civil engineer of India? well, today in this article I am going to write about such personality we all don't even know about.

Shakuntala A Bhagat, India's first female civil engineer is also known as daughter of bridge engineer was founded a Mumbai based firm called Quadricon through her innovative designs in1970. This firm designed more than 200 bridges for all across the world including UK, USA and Germany.
She got her degree in civil engineering in 1953 from Veermata Jijabai technological institute in Mumbai. She was very ambitious to research and development of bridge structure. She along with her husband who was mechanical engineer stared working on this. Quadricon bridges are only found in Himalayan region where other bridges are not possible to construct.
also she got masters degree in structural engineering in 1960 from Pennsylvania university and started to teach in IIT Mumbai. They first built their bridge at Spiti, Himachal Pradesh in 1972 within 4 months and totally they build 69 bridges from Kashmir to Arunachala Pradesh by 1978.
